跨国并购作为企业走出去的重要途径,为国家嵌入全球创新网络,提高技术影响力提供重要契机。文章基于1997—2022年国际创新专利数据和跨国并购数据,实证检验跨国并购对国家嵌入全球创新网络和提高技术影响力的作用。研究发现,跨国并购有利于推动一国嵌入全球创新网络,并增强一国技术的影响力。机制检验表明,研发要素和人力资本双向流动是跨国并购推动一国嵌入全球创新网络和提升技术影响力的重要作用渠道,但国家间较大的技术距离和文化距离不利于发挥跨国并购的积极作用。基于跨国并购网络和专利被引网络的进一步探究发现,一国所处跨国并购网络的中心度和结构洞位置对于推动一国嵌入全球创新网络并提升技术影响力具有积极影响,且存在创新溢出效应;同时,参与跨国并购能够通过中心度效应扩大技术的影响范围,并通过结构洞效应提高一国对创新资源的控制力。文章的研究为推动中国加快开放创新发展、构建独立自主的开放创新网络提供了政策启示。
Abstract:As a crucial pathway for enterprises to go global, cross-border mergers and acquisitions(M&A) provide significant opportunities for nations to integrate into global innovation networks and enhance the influence of their technologies. This study empirically examines the role of cross-border M&A in facilitating national integration into global innovation networks and improving technological influence, utilizing international innovation patent data and cross-border M&A data from1997to2022. The results show that cross-border M&A is conducive to promoting a country′s integration into the global innovation network and enhancing the influence of its technology. Mechanism analysis demonstrates that two-way flows of R&D elements and human capital constitute vital channels through which cross-border M&A facilitates global innovation network integration and technological influence enhancement, whereas substantial technological and cultural distances between countries inhibit the positive effects of cross-border M&A. Further investigation based on cross-border M&A networks and patent citation networks indicates that a country′s centrality and structural hole positions in M&A networks positively influence its global innovation network integration and technological influence, accompanied by observable innovation spillover effects. Simultaneously, cross-border M&A participation expands the global reach of technological influence through centrality effects, while enhancing national control over innovation resources via structural hole effects. This research provides policy implications for accelerating China′s open innovation development and establishing an independent open innovation network.
